Antique 1893 Hieroglyphic Bible Old Testament Stories David Bryce Son Miniature Book Glasgow Victorian Rebus Bible Collectible

A genuine piece of Victorian miniature book history — this tiny Hieroglyphic Bible: Old Testament Stories was published in 1893 by David Bryce & Son of Glasgow, the firm celebrated as the world's foremost publisher of miniature books between 1877 and 1912. Bryce used the latest photolithographic and electroplate technology of the day to shrink full texts down to astonishingly small, still-legible formats — their 1896 miniature Bible held the title of smallest complete Bible ever printed(US Quarter pictured for scale purposes). This "hieroglyphic" edition tells Old Testament stories — Creation, Adam and Eve, Jacob and Esau, Moses in the desert, Solomon — with small pictures standing in for key nouns throughout the text, a beloved 18th- and 19th-century method for teaching children to read scripture. Shown with a US quarter for scale. The cloth covers show honest wear from age and handling — soiling, scuffing, and fraying at the spine — but the interior pages remain bright, colorful, and complete. A wonderful shelf piece for collectors of miniature books or antique Bibles. From the Chapter & Vintage collection — old things, new chapters. Carefully packed and shipped with full insurance.
