They lived between the areas of northern Shaanxi (陝西) and northern Henan (河南), to the south of various Turkic and Mongolic entities. In fact, the modern name Tibet is thought by some to come from Old Turkic Töpüt or "heights," perhaps via a Western Turkic or Iranic language. In any case, Tibetans do not use this term to refer to their land, which they call Phö (བོད). In short, they've been around for a long time, interacting with the diverse populations around them. So, a lot of their jewelry has influenced and been influenced by groups such as the Chinese, the Turks, the Mongols, and the various Iranic populations to their West.
