Antique German Bisque Doll, Cloth Body, Painted Black Hair, Marked Germany 4''

Small antique German miniature bisque shoulder-head doll with a cloth body and bisque arms and lower legs. Molded black bobbed hair, painted side-glancing eyes, thin brows, rosy cheeks, and a small closed red mouth. The white shoulder plate is impressed “Germany.” The torso is still covered in an old tan woven suit — a simple bodice and knee pants. Lower bisque legs are painted with blue sock bands and black shoes; the paint is slightly worn at the toes and heels. The plain “Germany” stamp on the shoulder plate points to after 1891, when U.S. import rules required a country mark. A stamp that says only “Germany,” not “Made in Germany,” is most often from about 1891 to the First World War.
