Description
An early 1900s silver ring mounted with a genuine antique old European oval cut 6.20 carat blue zircon, which is known for it's brilliant sparkle, in a handmade artist's setting. Large natural unheated zircon's are a premium now and the wholesale price per carat is in the $350 range. The design is attributed to Frank Gardner Hale and showcases hand-wrought, organic foliage and grape motifs, characteristic of the Arts & Crafts movement that emphasized traditional craftsmanship. This genuine large Blue Zircon (approx 11.5x9.5x6.35mm) has an amazing medium light tone, greenish blue color with the tell tale flat culet of an antique cut gem. Be careful when measuring on a ring mandrel as the culet of this stone does stick out beyond the base of the ring. The stone is bezel set in a hand constructed grape vine setting that is highly characteristic of the work of master jeweler Frank Gardner Hale (1876-1945) who opened a shop in Boston in 1907 with many of his items which featured semi-precious stones set in elaborate silver nature motifs. In addition this was purchased from an estate within 50 miles of Boston.
A similar blue zircon ring from the same estate is listed here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/4443362689/arts-crafts-silver-grape-vine-43ct-blue
Weight: Weighs 4.7 grams.
