Arts of Asia: Chinese Painting in the Imperial Age, 1980s Art Publication

Beautifully curated art magazine by Arts of Asia. 12 7/8 inch by 9 inch. 160 pages. Some wear to the corners of the cover - see photos for imperfections. Originally published November of 1986, this volume explores Chinese Paintings in the collection at the National Palace Museum. Something like a time capsule, the publication begins with a spread of advertisements about art auctions and antique galleries. The remainder of the book catalogs paintings from the museum’s collection. Color and black&white photography with captions that identify the artist, dimensions, medium and time period. These paintings hold the stories of Chinese history, industry and culture. A thoughtful gift for an art collector or enthusiasts/connoisseurs of Chinese art. From the Editor: “An ambition of mine since many years has been to present a history of Chinese painting written by Chinese themselves rather than by Western scholars. I have always realised that to do so in a way that would be of benefit to English language readers it would be necessary to project the very finest examples of Chinese paintings from each period, and that the Chinese who are best qualified to present the subject would be most at home in writing in their own language.” *Pretty, Not Perfect: This vintage find is pre-owned.
