Aurangzeb on Horseback, Mughal Emperor Equestrian Portrait, Indian Miniature Wall Art, Mughal Empire Art, Framed Indian Print

The sixth Mughal emperor rides an elegant, richly caparisoned steed - spear in hand, sword at the ready, an attendant holding the parasol above him that had signalled kingship in India for a thousand years. ABOUT THE PAINTING The equestrian portrait entered Mughal painting through gifts of European prints and paintings to the court, and the studio made the form its own: the profile pose, the flat ground, the horse drawn with the precision of a portrait in its own right. Throughout his long reign the emperor was occupied above all with the conquest of the Deccan, which he achieved - carrying the Mughal empire to its greatest extent. Original medium: gum tempera, gold and silver on paper.
