Description

DOME OF THE ROCK | Al-Aqsa Tile Facade & Golden Dome, Jerusalem Palestine — Instant Digital Download This is not the wide view. This is the close-up — the Dome of the Rock seen from below and nearby, the great golden dome filling the upper frame against a vivid sky of deep teal blue, a pale moon suspended in the upper left. Below the drum, the exterior tile facade fills the lower half of the image in extraordinary detail: dense bands of Ottoman Iznik-style tilework in cobalt blue, white, and gold, geometric patterns interlocking across the entire surface, and above them the Arabic inscription band carrying the words of the Quran in flowing script — white letters on cobalt ground, running the full circumference of the building. The palette is bold and jewel-like: gold dome, cobalt tile, bright sky, white moon. It is a photograph of pure visual force. The Dome of the Rock (Qubbat al-Sakhrah) was completed in 691 CE on the orders of the Umayyad Caliph Abd al-Malik — making it the oldest surviving Islamic monument in the world, and one of the most recognizable buildings on earth. It stands at the center of the Haram al-Sharif (Temple Mount) in Al-Quds (Jerusalem), built over the Sacred Rock from which the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is believed to have ascended to the heavens during the Night Journey. The gold-plated dome that crowns the building today dates to a major renovation in 1964, when the lead covering was replaced with gold-anodized aluminum, its warm brilliance now a permanent feature of the Jerusalem skyline. The exterior tile facade visible in this image is among the most beautiful architectural surfaces in the Islamic world. The original Umayyad mosaics were replaced in the sixteenth century under the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, who commissioned an entirely new cladding of Iznik-style tiles — cobalt, turquoise, white, and gold — as a visible assertion of Ottoman patronage over Islam's most sacred sites. Inscribed across the upper band of the tilework is Surah Ya-Sin, known in Islamic tradition as the Heart of the Quran; above it, Surah Al-Isra' — the chapter of the Night Journey — whose very first verse names Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa, the farthest mosque, as the destination of the Prophet's miraculous nocturnal journey from Mecca. The building you are looking at in this image carries those words, in Suleiman's tiles, in the open air of Jerusalem. Framed large, this print commands a room. The bold vertical composition — gold above, cobalt tile below, open sky — brings immediate color and spiritual presence to any space: a living room, a hallway, a prayer room, or any wall where something of genuine weight and beauty is wanted. As a digital download you can print immediately — at any size, in any frame you choose. Scroll through the listing images for a close-up of the tile detail and framing ideas for your space. For best results: choose heavyweight matte or satin art paper — the bold cobalt and gold tones read most powerfully on a satin or matte surface. For museum quality: request giclee printing — pigment-based inks that keep colors vibrant for up to 200 years. For a vintage feel: try canvas printing — the texture of a woven surface deepens the tile and mosaic quality of the image beautifully. For this palette: a warm gold frame or slim dark frame are both ideal — warm gold echoes the gilded dome and lifts the cobalt tiles, while a slim dark frame lets the bold color of the image speak entirely for itself. 📥 ACCESSING YOUR FILES After purchase, go to: Etsy Profile → Purchases and Reviews → Download Guest buyers receive an automated email from Etsy with your download links. ⚖️ TERMS OF USE ✓ Personal use — print as many copies as you need ✓ Gift printed copies to friends and family ✗ No sharing or distributing digital files ✗ No commercial use or resale Questions before purchasing?
