Eclectic Simurgh Art Print – The Birth of Rustam • Persian Epic Wall Art

Simurgh Art Reproduction – Shahnameh Persian Miniature, Eclectic Decor This beautiful 17th century miniature in pigment ink and gold is the work of famed Safavid court painter Muhammad Zaman, who was appointed to add new illustrations to an existing manuscript of the Firdausi's Persian epic, the Shahnameh (Book of Kings), from the Isfahan royal library. In this scene, Rudaba is struggling with a difficult labour and her husband Zal calls upon his foster mother (the Simurgh) to help. The Simurgh teaches Zal guides Zal in performing a life‑saving caesarean delivery. She also gives him a magical feather whose ashes heal Rūdāba instantly, ensuring both mother and child survive. The painting is rich in colour and detail, and is accentuated by an ornate border that depicts animals including a lion, a leopard and deer. Although the exact place of production is unknown, the painting’s partly European style (farangi‑saz) as famously used by Muḥammad Zaman marks it as a late‑Safavid work. The original painting was in excellent condition for its age. It has been brightened and clarified to bring it back to its full glory. The border gilt had some oxidisation and this has been digitally repaired, along with minor paint damage in the main painting. The restoration of this work has been completed in-house, without the use of AI. This restored artwork is exclusive to us and you will not find it anywhere else.
