Description
A C.1820-1830 Georgian Pinchbeck mesh slide bracelet is a rarity to come across and even rarer is one with a micromosaic as the center piece. In addition to being a slide bracelet it also is a tassel bracelet with four tassels on the end. The center piece, a 20.6 x 17mm scenic micro mosaic, is a work of art with finely stacked tesserae forming a landscape scene of a house under a tree which is an unusual subject. A souvenir of the grand tour while in Rome Italy. It is surrounded by a scalloped frame which forms the buckle for the band to slide through. The woven mesh of the band is a combination of high polished and textured links with a gilt finish that is is amazing condition considering it's 200 years of age. Where this is a slide bracelet the length is adjustable to any wrist size.
Pinchbeck was invented by Christopher Pinchbeck, a London clockmaker in the early 18th century. The material was created to resemble the gold appearance. Pinchbeck is a form of brass, an alloy of copper and zinc. Authentic Pinchbeck jewelry is highly sought after by collectors.
Weight: 82.5 grams.
Measurements: Measures 11 1/4" long by 7/8" in width adjusts to all wrist sizes.
Condition: Very good condition for it's age. No eye visible wear to the gilt on the mesh and frame. The only slightly noticeable wear is the the underside of the slide buckle but even that one needs to look closely to see. There is no missing tiles to the mosaic and only a couple of tiny chips in the black glass frame.
