From back cover:
GETTING IT ALL TOGETHER
"The children, Jan -- look after the children. Keep them together..." Her mother's dying words are urgent.
16 year-old Jan wants very much to keep the family together, but she has problems. The welfare people say she's too young to be head of the house -- they think there should either be a responsible adult in charge or the children should be placed in foster homes. Jan thinks everything would be all right if they'd just leave her and the kids alone. And her boyfriend agrees with her -- but then Tony and his motorbike are two strikes against Jan as far as welfare is concerned.
When it looks as if the family will be separated, Jan makes her big decision: They will barricade the house against the authorities. No one -- not even the police -- will be allowed in!
