Hawaii Canvas Art Kiholo Bay Digital Oil Painting, Hawaii Island Hawaii, Coastal, Tropical, Beach, Sunset, Ocean, Aloha, Nature Hawaiian Art

Aloha! Welcome to the Kahana.Shop Etsy store. Kiholo Bay lies along the stark and beautiful Kona coast of Hawaii Island, a hidden oasis where turquoise waters meet a shoreline of black lava rock, fed by cool freshwater springs that bubble up to create a striking blend of fresh and sea water in an unusual brackish lagoon. This serene bay has long been a place of importance to Hawaiians; in the early nineteenth century, King Kamehameha the Great ordered the construction of an enormous fishpond here, a great loko ia two miles around, harnessing the abundant waters to raise fish, a marvel of Hawaiian aquacultural engineering. Though the original fishpond was later buried by an 1859 lava flow from Mauna Loa, the bay remains rich with life, its sheltered waters a favored gathering place for honu, the green sea turtles that come to feed and rest. Backed by stark black lava fields and dotted with palms and a scattering of homes, Kiholo offers a vivid picture of the Kona coast's raw volcanic beauty softened by the gift of fresh water. A tranquil and storied refuge, Kiholo Bay captures the elemental character of Hawaii Island, where the legacy of a great king, the bounty of the sea, and the ever-present power of the volcano come together along an unforgettable shore. This vivid digital oil painting captures the beauty and spirit of Kiholo Bay, Big Island. • 1.25″ (3.18 cm) thick poly-cotton blend canvas • Canvas fabric weight: 10.15 +/- 0.74 oz./yd.² (344 g/m² +/- 25g/m²) • Fade-resistant • Hand-stretched over solid wood stretcher bars • Mounting brackets included • Blank product sourced from the US, Canada, Europe, UK, or Australia Created with the help of AI-assisted design tools; all final artistic decisions are my own.
