Description
A framed horizontal poster that captures a quietly bustling street moment rendered in collage-like layers and warm, muted tones. The scene feels lived-in — children in coats, a red fire hydrant, and a textured backdrop of stairways and brick — inviting a slow, observant gaze. Hung in a simple black frame with a matte surface and protective acrylic, the artwork brings an intimate, gallery-quality presence to entryways, living rooms, or work nooks. The archival paper and pigment inks keep colors vivid and tactile, while the pre-installed hanging hardware means it arrives ready to display.

Art style
Afro-surreal mixed-media digital collage with cut-paper layering, textured cardboard background, translucent overlays, and minimalist faceless silhouettes. The composition blends urban storytelling with a handcrafted, tactile aesthetic—raw edges, muted tones, and bold contrast elements (like the red fire hydrant) grounding the narrative.
This powerful mixed-media digital collage captures a painful chapter of American history—when segregation dictated even the most basic human needs. A “White Only” water fountain stands mounted on a worn, textured wall, symbolizing systemic exclusion. In contrast, Black children gather around a red fire hydrant in the street, forced to create their own source of relief and community in the face of injustice.
Rendered in layered cut-paper textures with visible folds, shadows, and collage depth, the figures feel both fragile and resilient. The muted tones of the background highlight the bold red hydrant—symbolizing survival, resistance, and adaptation. The children holding hands reflects unity and inherited strength despite oppressive systems.
This artwork speaks to:
• Jim Crow segregation
• Racial injustice in public spaces
• Childhood innocence in harsh realities
• Community resilience
• The contrast between exclusion and shared humanity
