Text in arabic: كُلُّ شَىْءٍ هَالِكٌ إِلَّا وَجْهَهُۥ ۚ لَهُ ٱلْحُكْمُ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ Transliteration: Kullu shay’in halikun illa wajhahu lahu alhukmu wa ‘ilayhi turjaoon Translation: Everything perishes except His countenance. His is the command, and unto Him you are being brought back. Information: In Qur’an 28:88, the verse starts by “وَلَا تَدْعُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ”, stating that “And do not call (for help) unto any other god along with Allah.”. The verse points to the fact that, although one might not consider it as such, what one considers as a source of help is their god. The verse warns against expecting help from things that can in no way help the human, and continues by stating “لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ” highlighting “there is no god but Him” to make the point clear for the reader. Then in the second part of the verse comes a very strong reminder and justification for the initial statement: “كُلُّ شَىْءٍ هَالِكٌ إِلَّا وَجْهَهُۥ ۚ لَهُ ٱلْحُكْمُ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ”, that is, “Everything perishes except His countenance. His is the command, and unto Him you are being brought back.”. This part of the verse reminds the human transitoriness of existence and that anything and everything that comes to being perishes. What stays behind is how they referred to their Creator. It also highlights that, just as anything else, human is a creation of the Creator, thus comes from Him, and to Him is human’s return. ...Information about the Calligraphy and the Design of the Art piece... This artwork is written in the calligraphic style of thuluth by certified calligrapher Meryem Osmanlioglu, who is also the owner of this Etsy shop. Meryem got her traditional calligraphy education from renowned masters Fevzi Gunuc and Huseyin Kutlu. Thuluth as a calligraphic style found its best form in the Ottoman era, beautifying the arcs of magnificent mosques in Istanbul, Bursa, Edirne and elsewhere, complementing the architectural elegance with the invigorating curves of the letters. In this piece, the artist writes verse in taqlid (imitation) of calligraphy master Ismail Hakki Altunbezer’s (1880-1946) famous design in the style of Jali thuluth. In the design, “Everything persihes except his countenance” portion of the verse that is strong enough to shake every particle of the human body is written in large font to highlight its importance. At the end of the art piece, the artist rendered the “His is the command, and unto Him you are being brought back.” portion of the verse in the form of a water droplet, as this part of the message becomes like a water of life to the individual, who realizes the truth of the message and is ready to drink this message to become eternally alive. - THE PRODUCT - There are two variations; Orginal 31x19 inches: This is an original hand-made piece of art, designed and produced by myself by using the highest quality material.
