Description

Somebody rings on a Thursday about a job, and you cannot remember whether it is the one in the warehouse or the one at the college. Forty applications in six weeks is forty job titles, forty half-remembered adverts and four slightly different versions of the same CV, and after the first fortnight none of it is distinguishable. The thing that makes the next call go well is not confidence. It is a page you can turn to that says which job, which version, and what you said last time. APPLIED is 21 pages of plain, ruled paper for exactly that. Every job you went for, where you saw it, what you sent and which version, what they asked at interview and what came back — kept by the person doing the applying. THE FOUR PAGES THAT PAY FOR IT Every application, one line each. The date, the job, the employer, where you saw it and how you applied. Three sheets is a whole search, and it is the page you open when the phone rings. What you sent, and which version. The single most useful column in the book. Four CVs in circulation is four different people, and only one of them gets asked about. What they asked, written down afterwards. In the car park, before it goes. Questions repeat across interviews far more than anybody expects, and this is the page that turns a bad afternoon into a better one. No advice, no templates, no model answers. Nothing in here writes for you. There is no wording to copy, because a copied answer is the one they have already heard four times that morning. WHAT IS INSIDE One — You What you are actually looking for Two — Applications Three sheets, one line as you send it Three — One job A page for anything you really want Four — What you sent And which version of it Five — One interview Written before you leave the car park Six — Interviews The register, one line each Seven — Questions Across every interview, as asked Eight — People Names, roles and how to reach them Nine — Where jobs came from And whether any of it worked Ten — What it cost Dated, with receipts noted Eleven — What came back Including the silences Twelve — An offer Written down in their words Thirteen — Where this has got to Every few weeks Fourteen — Anything else A ruled page, for the rest WHY IT IS A BOOK AND NOT A SPREADSHEET Because it is written in a car park, on a bus, or in the twenty minutes after an interview when the questions are still exact and the phone battery is at nine per cent. It is also read one-handed while somebody unexpected is talking to you, which is the one thing a scrolling list on a screen has never been able to do. WHAT YOU GET Four PDFs, one for each print size: US Letter (8.5 x 11 in) A4 Half-Letter (5.5 x 8.5 in) A5 21 pages each. Print at home or at a print shop, as many times as you like, for as long as you like. Plain paper and a ring binder is the whole kit. Instant download, in your Etsy Purchases the moment payment clears. THE SMALL PRINT Digital download. No physical item is shipped. Colours vary between screens and printers. For personal use. Please do not resell or redistribute the files. A NOTE ON WHAT THIS IS The shortest page in the book, and worth reading first. This is your own record of your own search. It writes nothing for you and advises you about nothing. What this is. Ruled paper for writing down what happened, when it happened and what it came to — with a date beside it. Nothing in it is computed and nothing in it is advice What this is not. Not a CV template, not a covering letter, not a set of model answers and not careers advice. It prints no wording to copy, no questions to expect, no salary figure, no interview technique and no advice about benefits, contracts or your rights at work Why it refuses. Because the words that get somebody a job are their own words about their own life, and a phrase printed here would be a phrase four other people in the same waiting room had also bought. Because pay, contracts and rights at work differ by country and by year, and a figure printed here would be somebody else's. Advice comes from somebody qualified, who knows where you live and what you do. What this book holds is what you sent, what they asked and what came back — which is the part nobody keeps and everybody needs
