Description

Roselane Pottery (founded Pasadena, CA 1938 by William and Georgia Field) made this vintage mid century Aqua Marine pattern shaker. It's counterpart shaker seems to have been broken in half and repaired. I am including it for free as a display item. Because these shakers can be hard to find, I did not want to rid of it. So, this pair is priced for a single shaker. The Aqua Marine line dates from 1945-1952 and features stylized fish and sea-life designs. The decoration is graphic and simple with fish forms painted or applied in a loose, modern style. The line also fits within the wider postwar interest in aquatic, tropical and casual entertaining themes. Fish, shells, birds, bamboo and island-inspired imagery appeared widely in American ceramics and giftware during the 1940s and 50s. This particular shaker is of aqua turquoise color with black painted swirls and stylized fish. The egg-shaped shaker has two-holes at top and a hole at bottom for filling. There is no cork. It measure 5 1/4 inches tall with a 2 5/8 inch diameter at largest. There is crazing to the glaze, but it is in overall good vintage condition. The repaired shaker has cracks that go around it with some glue that can be felt on the surface. On a shelf it is not noticeable. Please see photos for condition. This pair is sold as is.
