Mumtaz Mahal Portrait, Taj Mahal Empress, Mughal Indian Miniature Wall Art, Shah Jahan Love Story, Framed Indian Royal Decor

Crowned and bejewelled, Mumtaz Mahal gazes serenely outward - the empress for whom the Taj Mahal was raised. ABOUT THE SITTER Beloved consort of the Emperor Shah Jahan, she travelled with him on campaign and bore him fourteen children; she died in 1631 at Burhanpur. The monument he built at Agra over the following two decades made her the most remembered woman in Indian history, though few images of her were painted from life. ABOUT THE PAINTING The likeness belongs to the refined ivory-portrait tradition of Delhi, where later master painters kept the memory of the Mughal court alive in miniature - gouache and gold worked in luminous detail upon a softly clouded ground.
