Yellow Spanish onions are loved for their versatility in the kitchen. They're sweet and crunchy and taste great in salads or on sandwiches, and they great cooked or sautéed. Gardeners can enjoy their harvest well into winter as these onions store up to six months or more. Growing Instructions: 1) Direct sow: In spring 6-8 weeks before final frost date or as soon as soil can be worked. In autumn 4-6 weeks before first autumn frost date. Create a 1-in trench in the dirt and spread 2-3 seeds every inch. Cover lightly with 1/4-1/2 in of soil. Keep soil evenly moist but not overly wet. Water gently before germination occurs to avoid disturbing seeds. Germination will occur around 5-10 days. When seedlings have sprouted, thin to the strongest plant every 4-6 in. Tips: Bulbs that do not grow large enough to eat can be saved and planted the following growing season. The greens of the plant can also be eaten, they have a similar flavor to scallions.
