Harvest bulbs at around 2-3 inches for best tenderness. This is a good variety for containers and small spaces. Leaves can also be consumed and are similar to kale or spinach. Sow in the early spring or late summer for a fall harvest. Purple Vienna Kohlrabi can be eaten raw and also tastes great steamed or sautéed. Growing Instructions: 1) Direct sow: In spring 3-4 weeks before final spring frost or as soon as soil can be worked. In fall 6 weeks before the first expected fall frost. Plant 2-3 seeds 1/4 inch deep in groups 4 inches apart and rows 9-12 inches apart. Keep soil evenly moist but not overly wet. Water gently before germination occurs to avoid disturbing seeds. Germination will occur around 10-21 days. Thin to one plant every 4 inches when leaves are about 2-3in tall. (Can also be started inside 4-6 weeks before last frost and transplanted after threat of frost has passed.)
