Persian Art Printable: Concourse of the Birds Manuscript Poster, Teal Gold Border, Safavid Sufi Wall Art - Instant Digital Download

CONCOURSE OF THE BIRDS | Original Manuscript Border - Instant Digital Download This magnificent artwork is an artist-enhanced restoration of one of the most celebrated paintings in the entire history of Islamic art — The Concourse of the Birds, painted by the Persian master Habiballah of Sava in the 16th century — presented here in its original manuscript context, complete with the illuminated border as it appeared in the original Safavid manuscript. The teal and gold flecked border that surrounds the painting is itself a masterwork of Persian illumination — the characteristic lapis-teal ground scattered with gold, framing the central scene with the same care and artistry as the painting itself. This is how the work was intended to be seen: not as a standalone painting but as a page from one of the greatest illustrated manuscripts in Islamic history. The painting depicts assembled birds gathering in an idyllic landscape before beginning their great spiritual journey — the search for the Simurgh, the mythical bird known as the Phoenix in Western traditions. The Simurgh represents the ultimate spiritual unity in Islam, while each bird represents the individual soul on its path toward that unity. This illustration was created for the original manuscript of Farid al-Din Attar's mystical poem 'The Conference of the Birds' (Mantiq al-Tayr) — one of the great works of Sufi literature. Persian verses in delicate naskh script appear in cartouches within the border — fragments of Attar's poem preserved exactly as they appeared six centuries ago. The peacock, stork, rooster, hawks, doves and dozens of other birds gather on rocky outcrops beside a flowing stream, while a turbaned figure watches from among the rocks above. Habiballah of Sava was one of the most accomplished Persian miniaturists of the late 16th and early 17th centuries, working in the tradition of the great Safavid court painters.
