PERSIAN MINIATURE ART SET OF 2 | Concourse of the Birds & Simurgh - Instant Digital Download This extraordinary set pairs two of the most celebrated works in Persian miniature painting — a rare opportunity to bring two masterpieces of Islamic manuscript art into your home as a cohesive and breathtaking gallery pair. - - - CONCOURSE OF THE BIRDS - - - Painted by the Persian master Habiballah of Sava in the 16th century, this work is considered one of the finest illustrations in all of Islamic art. Created for Farid al-Din Attar's mystical poem 'The Conference of the Birds' (Mantiq al-Tayr), the painting depicts an assembly of birds — peacock, heron, crane, dove, and many more — gathered in an idyllic landscape before embarking on their spiritual quest for the Simurgh. In Sufi tradition the Simurgh represents ultimate divine unity, and each bird symbolizes the individual soul searching for its source. The journey of the birds is the journey of the human spirit. - - - ZAL RESCUED BY THE SIMURGH - - - This masterpiece comes from the Shahnama (Book of Kings), produced for Shah Abbas the Great shortly after his accession in 1587. It depicts the mythical Simurgh — the great phoenix of Persian mythology — rescuing the infant Zal from a mountain peak. Cast out at birth because of his white hair, Zal is carried to the safety of the Simurgh's nest, where he is raised among the clouds. The blazing amber and gold mountain, the radiant phoenix in flight, and the rich gilded border make this one of the most visually spectacular images in the entire Persian manuscript tradition. - - - THE PAIR - - - Displayed together, these two works create a dialogue across centuries — both centered on the Simurgh, both capturing the intersection of beauty, myth, and spiritual meaning that defines the golden age of Safavid Persian art. The warm gold, teal, and earthy palette makes them a naturally cohesive gallery pair for any interior. Display in matching gold or natural wood frames for immediate visual impact.
