Plato satírico Sarreguemines - cerámica opaca francesa, c. 1875-1900

This 19th-century French ceramic plate from the prestigious Sarreguemines manufactory exemplifies the tradition of witty "assiettes parlantes"—decorative plates designed to entertain diners with satirical humor and everyday scenes. Created using transferware technique between 1875 and 1900, it features a caricatured scene with French text framed by an intricate rococo border adorned with satirical faces, all rendered in black transfer on cream with a blue floral rim. At 21 cm across, the plate shows excellent condition with only the fine crazing typical of authentic period faience, making it a genuine artifact of late 19th-century French visual culture and graphic wit.
