Description
It was eleven pounds on Saturday morning and by Sunday teatime nobody could account for more than four of them.
Money disappears fastest for the people who have least of it, and a child with coins in a tin has no way of knowing where any of it went. A book with two columns fixes that in a way no amount of being told about saving ever has — because the child writes the lines, reads them back, and works it out for themselves.
POCKETED is 10 pages of plain, ruled paper for exactly that. Money in and where it came from, money out and what it went on, what you are saving up for and how far off it is, and the jobs you did — all of it written down by you.
THE FOUR PAGES THAT PAY FOR IT
Money in, and where it came from. Pocket money, a birthday, a grandparent, a job you did. Written on the day, by you.
Money out, and what it went on. What you spent it on, where, and whether it was worth it. Nobody is checking the last column. That is why it is honest.
What you are saving up for. What it costs, how much you have, and how much is still to go. Your own figures, worked out by you.
Jobs you did. What the job was, who asked, how long it took and what was agreed. This book sets no rate and no reward for anything.
WHAT IS INSIDE
One — This is mine What your family agreed, written down
Two — Money in Where it came from, on the day
Three — Money out Two sheets, and an honest last column
Four — Saving up Your own sums, in pencil
Five — Jobs What was agreed before you started
WHY IT IS A BOOK AND NOT A SPREADSHEET
Because it belongs to a person who does not have a phone, or is not allowed it at the table, and because writing down what you spent is a completely different experience from tapping it in. A book with a pencil in the spine goes in a bag, comes out at the shop, and is the child's own — which is the entire point of the exercise.

A NOTE ON WHAT THIS IS
The shortest page in the book, and worth reading first.
This is your own record of your own money. It is not advice and it does not tell you what to do with any of it.
What this is. Ruled paper for writing down what happened, when it happened and what it came to — with a date beside it. Nothing in it is computed and nothing in it is advice
What this is not. Not financial advice, not a budget and not a savings plan. It prints no percentages, no split between saving, spending and giving, no amount of pocket money, no rate for any job and no rule about what anybody should do with their money
Why it refuses. Because how much pocket money there is, what it is for and whether any of it has to be saved are decisions for the family, and they are different in every house. A figure or a split printed here would be a stranger telling a child their family had it wrong. The columns are here; what goes in them is between the child and whoever gives out the money
