Description

Command attention in your garden with our 'Prince of Orange' Poppy seeds. (Papaver orientale.) This stunning, long-lived perennial poppy variety boasts enormous 4-5 inch, satiny, tangerine blooms, each accented with a dramatic black center. The delicate, crepe paper-like petals rise on sturdy stems above a low-mounding, grayish-green foliage, creating a vibrant focal point from late spring through early summer. Easy to grow and low-maintenance, Prince of Orange is an excellent choice for cottage gardens, borders, or naturalized plantings. It is a magnet for essential pollinators like bees, butterflies and hummingbirds, yet naturally resistant to deer and rabbits. Once its spectacular bloom cycle finishes in the heat of summer, the foliage goes dormant, reappearing in the fall to overwinter, making it a perfect companion for later emerging perennials that can fill the temporary gap. Perennial in zones 3 to 9. Growing instructions: because poppies have long taproots that don't like to be disturbed it is best to direct sow the seed in early spring, a few weeks before the last frost. Or in fall in milder climates. Poppy seeds are tiny and require a period of cold stratification (2-4 weeks of cool temperatures) to break dormancy. This happens naturally if direct sowing in fall or early spring. Do not cover the seed as they require light to germinate. Seedling should emerge between 14 and 21 days. Plant in full sun. Non-GMO.
