The complete set of six woven wall tapestries after "The Lady and the Unicorn" (La Dame a la Licorne) - the celebrated millefleurs series woven in Flanders around 1500 and now in the Musee de Cluny in Paris. Five panels for the five senses, and the enigmatic sixth, A Mon Seul Desir. Sold together as a full set. Buying the six as one lot means a matched dye lot, identical weave and finish across all six panels, and a single shipment rather than six. THE SIX PANELS - SIGHT (La Vue) - the unicorn kneels in the lady's lap and gazes at his reflection in the mirror she holds. - HEARING (L'Ouie) - the lady plays a portative organ while her maidservant works the bellows. - TASTE (Le Gout) - the lady lifts a sweet from a dish held by her servant, a parakeet on her raised hand. - SMELL (L'Odorat) - the lady weaves a crown of carnations while a monkey behind her lifts a flower to his nose. - TOUCH (Le Toucher) - the lady holds the standard in one hand and the unicorn's horn in the other. - A MON SEUL DESIR - "to my only desire": the lady before a blue pavilion, returning her necklace to its casket. MEASUREMENTS - Each panel: 86 x 62 cm / 34 x 24 inches - Six panels, all the same size DETAILS - Densely woven jacquard tapestry, not a print - Deep madder-red millefleurs ground scattered with flowers, rabbits, birds and small animals - Each panel finished with a fabric backing and a sewn rod pocket, ready to hang on a slim rod or dowel - Hanging rods are not included HOW TO HANG THE SET Two rows of three is the most balanced arrangement for a lounge or dining wall. A single horizontal row of six suits a long hallway or a staircase wall. The five senses read left to right in the order above, with A Mon Seul Desir placed last or, if you prefer, in the centre as the focal panel.
