The Garden of the World: The Great West by is a fascinating account of the American west by C. W. Dana. It followed the surge in migration westward after the Gold Rush. This book functioned as an emigration guide, giving both physical and historical descriptions of the West. It is a compilation of information including statistics, speeches and pamphlets concerning the United States west of the Alleghenies. 'The West' for Dana embraces the states of Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas Territory, New Mexico, Utah, Oregon, Washington Territory and California.
This rare copy is bound in Brown fabric with embossed gold lettering. Condition is good, with all pages intact and almost completely unmarked. Yellowing and light staining as expected. Light wear throughout. 396 pp.
