Description

Rare copy dated 1935 of The Perfect Blend of the Old and the New- a Story of the Famous Vieux Carre of New Orleans is a promotional booklet written by Thomas Ewing Dabney (1885–1970) who was a noted journalist for The Times-Picayune and historian. The booklet focuses on the history, architecture, and cultural blend of the Vieux Carre (French Quarter) in New Orleans, highlighting the preservation and evolution of the area. Published with the compliments of D.H. Holmes Co. Ltd., a major New Orleans department store. Dabney was active in documenting New Orleans history during the 1930s, aligning with the era's interest in southern architectural preservation. Dabney's work is considered part of the literature documenting the "southern picturesque" movement, which shaped the perception of New Orleans' historic architecture during the early-to-mid 20th century. Measures 5” x 7”. 12 pages. Booklet is in very good vintage condition. Some minor wear to the cover and some spotting to some pages; otherwise, the book is in very good vintage condition.
