Description

Five courses, four websites, three different closing dates, a reference that has to be asked for, two open days on the same Saturday and one condition buried in the third paragraph of an email — and it is all being held in the head of a seventeen-year-old who also has exams. Applying to university is a paperwork problem wearing the clothes of a life decision. Every institution words things slightly differently, the dates come from six places, the replies arrive over four months and the crucial detail is almost always a condition somebody read once. Written down as it happens — the date, where you read it, what they actually said, what you did about it — the whole thing becomes something you can look at on one page. That is the entire job of this book, and it is the only job it does. ACCEPTED is 23 pages of plain, ruled paper for exactly that. The courses applied to and the deadlines as you copied them down, what went with each application, the open days, the interviews and what they asked, the offers and their conditions, and what you replied and when. THE FOUR PAGES THAT PAY FOR IT The courses and the dates, as given. Where you applied and every deadline you copied down, with a column for where you read it and who told you. The offers and their conditions, word for word. What they said, the conditions as written, what you replied and when. The page everything else hangs on. Open days, interviews and what they asked. Written the same evening, which is the only time you can still remember the questions. No advice, no rankings, no requirements. It tells you nothing about what to write, ranks no course and states no entry requirement. It records what you were told. WHAT IS INSIDE One — This year Who is applying, and who is advising Two — The courses Two sheets, with dates as given Three — Deadlines Every one, and where you read it Four — Applications What went where, and when Five — What went with Drafts, references, portfolios Six — Open days Written the same evening Seven — Interviews What they asked and what you said Eight — Tests Only the ones you were told to sit Nine — Offers Conditions copied word for word Ten — Fees and forms Sent, and what came back Eleven — References Asked, agreed, sent, thanked Twelve — Accommodation The second set of deadlines Thirteen — What I want Ruled paper, twice Fourteen — Results day Written on the day Fifteen — The decision And why, written at the time Sixteen — Notes Everything else WHY IT IS A BOOK AND NOT A SPREADSHEET Because it is filled in on a kitchen table between other things, by somebody who has four tabs open and a mock tomorrow, and because the person who needs to glance at it is often a parent standing in the doorway. A page on the table gets read by everybody who needs to read it and argued over in ten seconds. It is also the record that survives the account being closed the September after, which is exactly when somebody wants to check what a condition actually said. WHAT YOU GET Four PDFs, one for each print size: US Letter (8.5 x 11 in) A4 Half-Letter (5.5 x 8.5 in) A5 23 pages each. Print at home or at a print shop, as many times as you like, for as long as you like. Plain paper and a ring binder is the whole kit. Instant download, in your Etsy Purchases the moment payment clears. THE SMALL PRINT Digital download. No physical item is shipped. Colours vary between screens and printers. For personal use. Please do not resell or redistribute the files. A NOTE ON WHAT THIS IS The shortest page in the book, and worth reading first. This is one applicant's own record of their own applications. It belongs to them. What this is. Ruled paper for writing down what happened, when it happened and who it involved — with a date beside it. Nothing in it is computed and nothing in it is advice What this is not. Not advice, and not a guide to applying. It does not tell anybody what to write, how to write a personal statement or what to say at an interview; it prints no example statement and no model answer. It ranks no university, no college and no course, contains no league table and no comparison of any kind, and it states no entry requirement, no grade, no points figure and no prediction. It gives no advice about student finance, loans, fees, visas or appeals, and it decides nothing Why it refuses. Because every one of those things is set by the institution, published on its own pages, and changed every single year — so a printable that stated a requirement would be wrong for somebody within months and would be trusted anyway. What nobody provides is the plain record: which dates you were given and where you read them, what went with each application, what was asked at the interview, what the offer actually said and what you replied. That is the applicant's own and it is the part that keeps going missing. For anything you have to decide, the sources are the institution itself, your school or college, and whoever advises applicants where you live
