Vicksburg Assault Canvas Wall Art, Civil War Battle Painting, Siege of Vicksburg Decor, American Military History Gift

Determination climbed toward an unbreakable fortress. Union soldiers struggle upward through smoke, shattered earth, and devastating defensive fire in Vicksburg — Assault on the Stockade Redan. The steep approach carries the eye directly into the danger as blue-clad infantrymen press toward the Confederate earthworks above them. Their disordered movement, exhaustion, and casualties reveal the harsh reality of an assault against a fortified position. On May 22, 1863, Major General Ulysses S. Grant ordered a major attack against the defenses surrounding Vicksburg, Mississippi. At the Stockade Redan near Graveyard Road, Union troops confronted steep ground, a deep defensive ditch, and Confederate soldiers protected by substantial earthen works. The assault failed to break the line, helping persuade Grant that Vicksburg would have to be taken by siege rather than direct attack. This vertical composition is a historically inspired interpretation of that desperate encounter. Smoke-filtered daylight keeps the battlefield clearly visible while torn ground, rough timber reinforcements, muzzle flashes, and struggling soldiers communicate the ordeal without graphic gore. The result honors courage while refusing to present battle as clean or effortless. Created for Civil War enthusiasts, military-history readers, veterans, educators, collectors, and admirers of traditional historical art, this canvas makes a commanding focal point for a study, office, library, den, or living room. Part of The American Crucible Collection — 1861–1865 by Valor & Virtue Wall Art, an original series exploring the courage, sacrifice, conflict, and consequences of the American Civil War.
