Description

A lovely dark slate gray glazed slab pottery vase, featuring cobalt blue leaves and grass and mauve berries. Distinctive circular opening on the top rimmed by a blue line. Perfect condition. This is a hand-built stuido art pottery vase that is a bit of a mystery to me. I looked around a whole bunch trying to identify it. So, you’re probably getting a really great deal on it, but without a positive ID I didn’t feel comfortable pricing it higher. One theory is that it’s made by MCI pottery out of Japan - since the letters “MCI” or possibly “MGI” are written on the bottom. The look of the piece is similar enough to a couple pieces from them that I saw. However, all the other pieces had a printed sticker, and Japanese character logo, while this one simply has writing on the bottom. Another theory is the English potter Robert Louis Blatherwick. I found a vase of his with a very similar structure and proportions, and the same texture on the bottom. However, it was stamped on the side with his insignia, whereas this one is not. A third slight possibility is the potter Charles Halling, but I think the chances of that are slim. Do your own research if you like, or just buy this beautiful vase, trusting that you’re probably getting it for a steal! Decade: unsure. 1960s-1990s Label: MCI or MGI? Material: clay, stoneware Vintage Condition: excellent (From a pet and smoke free home) Measurements are taken flat and doubled where necessary. Height: 7” Width: 3 ⅝” Depth: 3 ⅝” Diameter of opening: 2 ⅜” NO RETURNS - ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
