Vintage Cast Iron Galleon Ship Bookends Pair Nautical Sailing Ship Maritime Library Decor Rustic Old World
$75.00

Description
A fantastic pair of vintage cast iron bookends featuring an ornate old-world sailing ship or galleon.
These have wonderful character. Each bookend depicts a heavily stylized sailing vessel with billowing sails, elaborate mast details and a wonderfully chunky sculptural form. The original dark finish has worn extensively over the years, revealing warm brown and rusty tones underneath.
The result is exactly the kind of naturally aged surface that can't really be reproduced convincingly — dark, moody and beautifully imperfect.
These would be right at home holding a row of old books in a library, study or reading nook, but they're interesting enough to display on their own as small pieces of maritime folk decor.
The pair appears to be cast iron and is quite substantial for its compact size. The backs are flat with a textured cast surface.
Approximate size:
Each measures about 4¼ inches wide.
Please see the measurement photographs for scale and exact proportions.
Condition:
Good vintage condition with substantial age-related surface wear. There is visible oxidation/rust, finish loss, discoloration and general wear throughout both pieces. This is especially noticeable along the bases, raised edges and details of the ships.
I have left the aged surface as found rather than attempting to repaint or restore it.
No maker's mark is visible.
Sold as the matching pair shown.
Age
These strike me as older than the first ship pair you showed me. Based on the casting, textured backs, black finish and decorative galleon design, I'd cautiously put them around 1930s–1950s, possibly a little earlier.
