Vintage Red Catalin / Bakelite Handle – Early Plastic Component & Craft Supply

A substantial old red Catalin/Bakelite handle or grip component with a beautifully turned and sculpted form. The original purpose of this piece is unknown. Its form and openings at both ends indicate that it was originally designed to be attached to another component, possibly as a handle or grip. Since the original fitting is no longer present, I prefer not to attribute it to a specific object or machine. The material has been tested with Simichrome polish and produced a positive reaction, consistent with old phenolic plastics such as Bakelite/Catalin. Under strong light, the deep cherry-red material reveals a beautiful translucent quality, adding considerable character to the piece. Today, it can be preserved as an interesting collectible example of early plastic design or repurposed as vintage craft material for an artisan project, custom handle, decorative object, jewelry component or other creative work.
