Vintage Sheet Music Book, "Gigi," Piano Selections, 5 Songs, Mid-Century Musical

This is an original sheet music book, “GIGI, Easy-To-Play Piano Selections,” lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, music by Frederick Loewe. It was published by Mara-Lane Music Corporation, Chappell & Co., Inc., with copyright dates 1957, 1958 and 1959. Play and sing songs from this classic story. This book includes five songs, and is 16 pages long. Selections from the Academy Award-winning musical GIGI include: Gigi * The Night They Invented Champagne *Waltz At Maxim’s * I Remember It Well * Thank Heaven for Little Girls. Information on the internet tells us: Gigi is a musical with a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. It is based on the 1944 novella Gigi by Colette and 1958 hit musical film of the same name. The story concerns Gigi, a free-spirited teenaged girl living in Paris. In 1951 Anita Loos adapted the novel for the stage, and the Broadway production of Gigi starred Audrey Hepburn in her first major role. Seven years later, while My Fair Lady was in Philadelphia prior to its Broadway opening, Arthur Freed approached Lerner about a feature film musical adaptation. Although Loewe had vowed never to work in movies, he was charmed by the book and agreed to collaborate on the project. The 1958 film of Gigi proved to be a major critical and commercial success and the winner of nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture. This is an authentic sheet music book; not a reprint or reproduction. It measures 9 inches by 12 inches. CONDITION: This copy is in very good vintage condition; the cover colors remain bright and the cover, both front and back, looks great. It shows minimal wear. The inside pages are in excellent condition, with the pages remaining white and bright, with no markings on the music that I noticed. The contents are completely usable. There are no odors. The only issues to note is that it has the patina of age, which is not unexpected for a sheet music book of its age.
