Vintage USS Thomaston Cast Bronze Plaque – Tomcat Mascot, 1950s Navy Memorabilia

This solid cast bronze plaque from the USS Thomaston captures a quirky piece of 1950s naval history—a playful tomcat wrestling an alligator, designed by crew member Chuck Flemming. The mid-century military craftsmanship is evident in the sand-cast grain texture and darkened patina that brings out the raised lettering and graphic details, while the Latin motto *Suaviter in Modo, Fortier in Re* (Gentle in manner, resolute in action) anchors the piece with gravitas. At nearly two pounds and measuring 6 by 6.5 inches, it's a substantial, conversation-starting addition for naval history enthusiasts or collectors of authentic militaria.
