NR People shop around for the price before they go for Hajj and expect more than they pay for, misbehave and lie while over there then come back and complain for nothing. Alhamdulliah we were sceptical, expected less and were pleasently delighted during the enrire trip for OUR EXPERIENCE because we went for hajj and it also became a happy vacation too. we will recommend this group. NR We went to hajj with Barakah group with expectation of average middle class treatment according to what we paid for. Alhumdolillah we recieved much more and very very high quality reception than what we expected even free medical treatment in room. We will again go with them Allah willing whenever we get a chance and recommend them highly Posted on June 28, 2005 |

NR As Salamu Alaikum. A lot of people consider the Hajj to be another vacation like those we take here in our nice hotels, restaurants, planes and highway systems. If this is your thinking, then you should review your expectations and remember that the hajj is a test from the moment you commit to going for it. It is also unlike any trip you have ever taken here in the US.
You should expect to sit in buses for 22+ hours, wait in government lines for 6+ hours, stand shoulder-to-shoulder in crowds as far as the eye can see in 90 degree weather, have only liquids as your diet during the entire trip, and sleep on a sheet on the dusty ground. If these are your expectations, then you begin to realize what the Prophet (SAW) and his companions went through - and you begin to appreciate how much better you have it.
Regarding my experience with Barakah Hajj, I would consider it to be excellent. Dr. Riaz has the best intentions and does the best he can given the circumstances. There were a lot of challenges this year, including expectations by those paying less to have equal accomodations and amenities as those paying more. There was also a lot of fitna with travel arrangements, as there were some last-minute changes to return dates. This issue consumed the group and I believe many people made their return as their focus, rather than focusing on the fact that they were on hajj. My suggestion is that you take 2 days off from work/ school/ life/ etc. before and after your scheduled hajj dates so that you don't run into this issue.
Barakah provided the best private buses among any group that we saw, they provided private buses when everyone else took a regular bus, they handled every last bit of paperwork, they arranged for a sumptuous buffet when most people were barely given a sandwich, they brought amenities at Muzdalifah and Arafat that other groups didn't even think about, and they had some of the best accomodations of anyone there. If you want specifics, feel free to contact me at aslam@devonavenue.com.
Where Barakah came short was in providing enough details at the front end and quelling people's expectations. More things needed to be in writing and needed to be planned and coordinated. While this is a tall task at hajj time, some additional effort would have helped everyone - including the leaders.
I understand that steps are being taken to ameliorate the situation for the upcoming year and I strongly suggest that you select this group for your hajj.
Please remember to pray for my family, for this group's leadership, and for yourselves at hajj. Was Salamu Alaikum. Posted on June 14, 2005 |
