Nazar Evil Eye Jewelry Dish, Large Oval Trinket or Fruit Tray

An oval tray with a nazar (evil eye) design. This is a hand built piece. I hand paint these with 2-3 layers of underglaze per color, fire them in my kiln, and then glaze them with a clear glossy glaze and fire them a second time over 2000°F (1093°C)! This is a mid-fire stoneware ceramic piece, which means it is quite sturdy and has the potential to last a lifetime (and beyond!) with proper care. These trays are great for storing jewelry or trinkets, or as a fruit bowl. They are food safe and dishwasher safe, though I generally recommend hand washing for all handmade ceramics as this will help the colors remain vibrant. These trays measure about 10” wide and about 1-1/4” tall. In Turkish culture, the “nazar” image symbolizes the “evil eye”: the eye of jealousy which is thought to bring harm or misfortune. The eye repels that energy thereby dispelling any negative effects from those who use or wear the objects they embellish. From the moment I was born, my father adorned me with all sorts of nazar so I grew up surrounded by this imagery.
