Description
A beautiful piece of Palestinian history, thoughtfully preserved and given a second life.
1930s Palestinian Tatreez Hand Embroidery Thobe | Repurposed Vintage Heritage Dress | Handmade in Palestine
The embroidery's age is part of the garment's history and value. However, Etsy may still assess the vintage eligibility of the reconstructed dress separately from the original embroidery.
This extraordinary Palestinian thobe combines generations of traditional craftsmanship, original vintage hand embroidery, and a beautiful handmade redesign.
The original Palestinian tatreez embroidery was carefully removed from a much older traditional thobe, believed to date back to approximately the mid-1930s, based on information shared by the family from whom the original piece was acquired.
Rather than allowing this beautiful historical embroidery to disappear, a Palestinian woman artisan lovingly incorporated it into a newly constructed dress, preserving its heritage while creating something wearable for another generation.
Please note: The estimated 1930s date refers to the original embroidered textile, not the entire reconstructed dress.
Design & Craftsmanship
This beautiful thobe features:
- Authentic vintage Palestinian hand embroidery (tatreez), carefully preserved from an older traditional dress.
- Rich floral embroidery
- Traditional striped Saya fabric, also known as Kashmiri Saya.
- Vibrant red decorative panels and zigzag appliqué detailing, carefully added by hand.
- Beautiful embroidery across the upper chest and neckline.
- Long vertical embroidered panels creating a striking traditional silhouette.
- A relaxed, flowing silhouette that combines traditional Palestinian heritage with contemporary wearability.
The red decorative panels were individually attached by hand, and the original embroidery was carefully incorporated into the new construction.

History & Origin
The original embroidered fabric is believed to date to approximately the mid-1930s, according to the family history shared when the piece was acquired.
The vintage embroidery was later repurposed into this beautiful dress by a Palestinian woman in Palestine.
DarZzeh Fashion did not reconstruct or alter this dress. We purchased it directly from the woman who had already completed the redesign.
It was then shipped to the United States and is now offered through DarZzeh Fashion.

Vintage Condition & Important Details
Please read carefully before purchasing.
This garment combines genuinely old embroidered textiles with newer fabric and handmade reconstruction.
The original embroidery is believed to be approximately 90 years old, and its age is naturally reflected in the appearance of the original fabric.
The navty blue background fabric supporting the vintage embroidery shows some fading and age-related color changes. This is expected because the original embroidered textile was preserved and reused rather than replaced.
These characteristics are part of the authenticity and history of the piece.
The garment also features visible hand stitching and traditional handmade construction. Some stitches, especially on the inside, may appear uneven or less refined than modern factory-made garments.
Please refer to the close-up photographs showing the embroidery, decorative stitching, original fabric, and interior finishing.
As this garment combines vintage materials and handmade craftsmanship, minor imperfections, irregularities, and signs of age may be present.
We believe these details add to its unique character and tell the story of a garment that has been treasured, preserved, and thoughtfully given a new life.
Cleaning & Care
The garment has been professionally dry cleaned in Jordan and is ready to wear.
Dry clean only.
We recommend gentle handling and careful storage to protect the delicate vintage embroidery and preserve the garment for years to come.
